Acushnet Riverview Park Project Begins

Town of Acushnet

The Acushnet Department of Public Works began construction on Monday, September 28th on the Acushnet Riverview Park Project.  This project was empowered by the Shared Streets and Spaces Grant Program, which provided the Town of Acushnet with $12,917.50 to develop a walkway/bikepath on River Street between Slocum Street and River View Park which will facilitate outdoor recreation with proper social distancing.  This project is an important link in the expansion of safe recreational walking, jogging, and biking in downtown Acushnet.  The vision for this project was a collaborative effort between the Board of Selectmen through Selectman Wojnar, the Town Planner Henry Young, and the Department of Public Works.

Thank you to Governor Baker and his staff for providing this grant opportunity, and to the Massachusetts Department of Transportation, District 5 for their support and cooperation in approving our project!  According to their website, the Shared Streets and Spaces Grant Program was put in place to allow cities and towns to quickly implement or expand improvements to sidewalks, curbs, streets, on-street parking spaces and off-street parking lots in support of public health, safe mobility, and renewed commerce in their communities.  We will not let this opportunity go to waste!

Please watch the attached video from Selectman Wojnar giving a preview of this exceptional project, visit the Public Works page for more photos of the project, and visit the Park later this week to take advantage of this renewed recreational space!
