WATER DEPARTMENT RECOGNIZED BY THE MASSDEP:
The Town of Acushnet Water Department has been awarded the 2020 Public System Award for Outstanding Performance and Achievement by the Department of Environmental Protection. This award was given to Towns that have had no enforcement or compliance issues in 2019 and the prior five years. This award was only given to 12% of the the 779 water communitys in the State this year. We are honored to be among the best.
The Highway Department is responsible for the maintenance and repair of the town roadways, storm water drainage system, sidewalks, street signs, public parking lots, town guardrails and general upkeep of the highway department vehicles and equipment.
General maintenance responsibilities include: catch basin cleaning, street sweeping, traffic markings, snow plowing and sanding.
Road construction is not allowed from November 15th to April 15th.
The Water/Sewer Department is responsible for the operation, maintenance and administration of the town water system and sanitary sewer collection system.
Our water comes from the water treated at the Quittacas Water Treatment Plant for the City of New Bedford which comes from a surface supply comprised of five ponds.
Sewerage is pumped to the Town of New Bedford waste water treatment plant for treatment and disposal.
Water/Sewer bills are sent out quarterly by the DPW staff and are collected by the Town's Treasurer/Collector at the Town Hall.
